A judge has formally invalidated a 2006 settlement between the city of Los Angeles and two companies, CBS Outdoor and Clear Channel Outdoor, that granted them special rights to convert as many as 840 billboards to a digital format, among other changes.
The settlement was negotiated by former City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo after the two companies sued the city over its billboard regulations.

Santa Clara County has agreed to pay $800,000 to the father of one of the two bicyclists struck and killed by a sheriff's deputy who fell asleep at the wheel of his cruiser, officials said Thursday.
Deputy James Council's car crossed the center line of Stevens Canyon Road in Cupertino on March 9, 2008, and struck three bicyclists. Matt Peterson, 29, of San Francisco, and Kristy Gough, 30, of San Leandro were killed, and the third bicyclist was badly injured. --

Preparations for the 2010 Winter Olympics created more than 20,000 jobs in B.C., according to a new report examining the economic impact of the Games during the six-year period between 2003 and 2008.
The report — titled The Games Effect by Price Waterhouse Coopers — estimated 5,000 of those jobs were in construction, and concluded overall B.C.'s unemployment rate would have been 0.4 per cent higher were it not for the Games.

Thousands of Chrysler Canada workers voted Sunday in favour of a deal reached between the ailing automaker and their union.
The deal was approved by 87 per cent of those Chrysler Canada workers who voted, the Canadian Press reported. --
